A little bit of doom and gloom

March 6th, 2025

Lurk actually writing on the journal about the things that bother him in the moment? Crazy, I know.

I've recently started going to the gym again. This should not be something of note, but I've noticed this usually coincides with the moments I feel the worst about the world around me.

So, the last few days have been a mess, huh? The US invaded another country clearly intending to once again distract you from the Epstein Files. Google has started allowing developers to submit their IDs in order to stop users from installing software they went out of their way to get, in an attempt to kill projects like F-Droid and really any apps that attempt to do something Google doesn't approve of. Discord is pushing for ID verification, Youtube is pushing for ID verification, though these two already collect enough data through your normal use that they can confidently predict your age 90% of the time. What a relief! The state of California (has anything good ever come from California?) is pushing for ID verification on all operating systems upon account creation (including Linux, which ironically has no accounts to create, so it's still debatable whether they have to comply). Of course, Pop!_OS is (prudently) complying. Can't wait for the community fork that reverts this change.

Unsurprisingly, this can strike people many different ways. One is to not care - this is what the world has been for at the very least the last 25 years with the Patriot Act (maybe 9/11 really was a conspiracy? Not completely surprising, since it seems this year every conspiracy theory is being revealed as true). Plus what can you do? Every company ever already sells your data, so even if you delete them and move on you won't have accomplished anything, so you might as well stay. (By the way, if you argue like this you're a cuck. I don't make the rules, you just are. If your ape brain could impress a mate for long enough to agree to marriage, you would let her cheat on you because "she was going to cheat on me anyway, might as well watch". You are a cuck.)

Another common reaction seems to be "Who are you and why are you inside my house?" and that's what I tried asking Amazon but the delivery guy said "i dunno, I just work here".

Jokes aside, this is the sort of thing that never fails to keep me on my toes. Whenever I hear about this sort of stuff I remember that I should have never stopped being paranoid. But now what? What do you do when you've found yourself compromised? The answer is, like in many other cases, as much as you can (out soon).
